197 Million Smartphones, All with SMS Messaging

By March 1, 2016 April 30th, 2020 No Comments

How many US citizens now own a smartphone? A new comScore report makes it clear: almost everybody. The research ending in December shows that 197.4 million people own a smartphone. With just over 320 million people, that accounts for 62% of the entire US population.

What’s the most popular smartphone maker? The research shows that the single most popular manufacturer is Apple at 42.9%; with Samsung at 28.4%.

As for the most dominant platform, Android comprises 53.3% of the market, with Apple representing the same 42.9%.

The greatest part about all of these numbers, every one of these phones sold has SMS messaging already downloaded. So, what comScore doesn’t include is that 100% of these 197.4 million handsets are SMS-ready; and, no download needed.
